Rafael (Ralph) deAyala, MD, FACOG has been in the private practice of gynecology and obstetrics for 24 years. A graduate of Houston’s Memorial High School, Dr. deAyala obtained his undergraduate biology degree at the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. His postdoctoral training included a categorical internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth where he was named outstanding resident in gynecologic laparoscopy. He recently relocated his practice to the Memorial area of Houston to be closer to his large family and friends. Being from a Cuban family and having practiced in Laredo, Texas for nearly 9 years, he is completely fluent in Spanish.

“I have been privileged to deliver over 15,000 babies during my career. Few areas in medicine would have allowed me the opportunity to become so closely involved with not only my patients, but their entire family as well. It is difficult to describe how rewarding this is.”

Although he enjoys all aspects of women’s health care, Dr. deAyala’s special areas of interest include age management medicine, hormonal optimization, minimally invasive surgery, alternatives to hysterectomy, prevention of preterm birth and evaluation of the infertile couple.

“I strongly believe that one should live a life that encourages disease prevention but in the event treatment does becomes necessary, it should be as natural and with as little risk as possible.”

Dr. deAyala takes this philosophy to heart by personally living a lifestyle that encourages a healthy balance between nutrition, exercise and stress reduction.
